Etiologies of Thrombocytopenia in the Community Hospital: The Experience of 1 Hematologist

Thrombocytopenia in hospitalized patients is a common cause for hematologic consultation. Our experience in the community hospital setting can inform treating physicians of the causes for and need to treat thrombocytopenia. Here we describe our clinical experience from 2 community hospitals over a 22-month period, wherein a single hematologist was consulted for 97 cases of thrombocytopenia in 93 patients.
