In the final paragraph, the authors additionally noted that nonmedication treatment options should be considered in patients who fail to respond adequately to first-line medications. Psychotherapy and exercise were offered as alternatives/adjuncts, but no mention was made of “the most effective and fastest acute treatment for major depression,”2 electroconvulsive therapy.
