A Case of Pyoderma Gangrenosum of Head and Neck Mimicking Purulent Cellulitis

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare non-infectious, ulcerative dermatologic disorder often associated with inflammatory bowel disease. Classically, lesions begin as tender pustules or vesicles that can rapidly cause ulcers with irregular borders. Pyoderma Gangrenosum commonly occurs in the lower limbs,1 especially the pretibial region. The appearance of Pyoderma Gangrenosum is uncommon in the face and neck region accounting for approximately 5% of Pyoderma Gangrenosum cases seen.1 This can often lead to misdiagnosis and initiation of unnecessary treatment or the delay of proper treatment.
