Randomized comparison of exercise intervention versus usual care in older adult patients with frailty after acute myocardial infarction

Cardiac rehabilitation programs after acute myocardial infarction have favorable effects on health status. Originally designed for young patients, their application is increasingly extended to older people.1,2 Around 30% of older adult patients hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction fulfill frailty criteria.3-7 There is a rational basis for implementing exercise programs in these patients. Muscular weakness, low mobility, sarcopenia and other frailty-associated conditions might benefit from tailored rehabilitation programs.
