Transgender healthcare is political because trans lives are political. Many countries are seeing lawsuits trying to curtail access to care for transgender people and, in the United States, some states have proposed bills that would criminalise offering transition-related medical care to trans minors. Although these efforts have so far been unsuccessful, they speak to the prevailing atmosphere of hostility towards trans people.
