High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol and Hyponatremia: An Unsolved Gordian Knot

In a previous issue of The American Journal of Medicine, Israel and Grossman1 reported that high levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) are associated with hyponatremia in hypertensive and normotensive individuals. Considering the fact that these findings were derived from the prospective Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) and a cross-sectional analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) datasets, respectively, their analyses had a few limitations.
